Mash Unveiled The New Black Seven 125 for 2017!

Mash’s first 125 to reach the UK seeks to evoke 1960s British bikes, just like its 400cc brothers. The Mash Black Seven 125 is more roadster than cafe racer, a restyle of existing Mash 125s, with a new tank, gaitered forks and matching speedo/rev counter. The only colour scheme for now is black with gold highlights suggesting either Velocette/AJS or Lotus JPS, depending on your era.

The overhead cam motor, which claims a respectable 11.6 bhp @ 8750 RPM, gives the new Mash Black Seven 125 nippy performance for a 125. It’s willing to rev round to the 10,000 RPM red line, with a few vibes coming in over 6000- 7000, and coped well with Corsica’s mountainous terrain. I can’t comment on top speed because the longest straight I saw measured about 300m…

So far, so normal, by geared 125 standards, but the new Black Seven’s brakes (discs both ends) are linked for Euro 4 spec. Press the pedal, and you get a 70/30 split of front/rear brake together. It all works okay, and the idea is to make things easier for novice riders, but for hard stops you need to squeeze the brake lever as well to utilise the front brake’s full power. Reflecting the cost of the Euro 4 spec, plus exchange rate fluctuations, the new Mash Black Seven 125 comes in at £2299.
