Ten years after the launch of the original Street Triple, Triumph has unveiled a trio of new machines: the Street Triple S, Street Triple R and Street Triple RS. The new 765cc inline triple engine is derived from the Daytona rather than the current Street Triple, with more than 80 new parts including new crank, pistons and Nikasil-plated aluminium barrels with increased bore and stroke (78 x 53.4mm). According to Triumph, the result is a significant improvement in performance, particularly in the low and mid-range.
Although the engine is shared across the range, each bike features individual levels of power and torque through its own unique engine set-up, ECU and tuning. In addition, the suspension, electronics, and
even tyres are tailored for each bike.
There’s also a dedicated lower ride height version of the ‘R’ (Street Triple R LRH) with its own suspension. And there’s an A2 licence version for the ‘S’ with a 660cc engine. Despite increasing the engine displacement from 675cc to 765cc, with a dry weight of 166kg, the new bikes are 2kg lighter than the current models, delivering an improved power to weight ratio and performance, with 1.7kg of the loss due to the new exhaust system and airbox. The revised gearbox and shorter first and second gear ratios are said to deliver stronger than ever acceleration and slicker gear changes too.
Visually, the Street Triples take a step closer to the Speed Triple range, with the new bodywork, fly screen, radiator, cowls, integrated air intake and the overall ‘nose down’ look.The fuel tank retains its 17.4 litre capacity.
Prices will start from £8000 for the ‘S’ model, and the bikes will be available from March 2017, with the ‘RS’ due to land at Triumph dealerships first…
Triumph Street Triple S
The Triumph Street Triple S is the base model, designed for everyday riding. It features up to 6.6% more peak power than the previous generation with a claimed 111 HP @11.250 RPM. Torque is also up by 7.3% with 54 lb-ft @ 9100 RPM. Upgrades include higher-spec brakes (with ABS of course), Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa tyres, Showa suspension (preload adjustable at rear), and an all-new gullwing swingarm. Colour options are red or black.
Triumph Street Triple R
Taking the performance, specification and finish to a higher level, the Triumph Street Triple R tune, with its own model-specific crank shaft, increases peak power to a claimed 116 HP @ 12.000 RPM, and delivers a 13% increased peak torque of 57 lb-ft @ 9400 RPM.
In addition to the ‘S’ features, it also boasts higher-spec Showa suspension (fully adjustable front and back) and radial four-piston Brembo calipers instead of the Nissin two-pots, full colour TFT instruments, slip assist clutch, additional riding modes, self-cancelling indicators and switchable ABS. The Street Triple R will be available in black, silver or white.
Triumph Street Triple RS
The Triumph Street Triple RS is the top of the range Street Triple, built for track as well as road. It delivers the highest level of performance ever for a Street Triple, with a power increase of up to 16% over the previous model, delivering a claimed 121 HP @ 11.700 RPM and a peak torque of 57 lb-ft @ 10.800 RPM – the same as the Street Triple R.
It also features Brembo M50 four-piston radial Monobloc calipers, Showa 41mm upside-down big piston forks at the front with Öhlins STX40 piggyback reservoir monoshock at the rear (all fully adjustable), and a range of additional equipment including a quick-shifter, track riding mode, lap timer, three additional screen display styles, Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP tyres, a belly pan and a pillion seat cowl. The Street Triple RS is available in silver and black.
