KTM 790 Adventure R Pre-production Model Revealed, The End of Big ADV’s?

At the EICMA 2017, KTM introduced an enduro prototype with two-cylinder, titled KTM 790 Adventure R. Now the Austrians give a first look at the new Enduro.

KTM has added a new twin cylinder series to its range and presented it ready for mass production in the Naked Bike 790 Duke. Not surprisingly, more models are planned with this 100 hp 799 cc twin. The prototype of an Enduro, which was on display at the Milan EICMA 2017, provided a first look into the near future.

The tank, which is pulled far down on both sides of the KTM 790 Adventure R, should ensure a low center of gravity and at the same time leave the driver as much freedom of movement as possible according to the rally model. The fact that the visually perceived dynamics can suffer a little from this (in other words: the bike looks a bit chubby), you have under “form follows function” aspects just check off as a technical trade compromise deal.

 

Premiere at the EICMA 2018

 

The new KTM 790 Adventure R will enter the market at next year. But the first premiere will be at the EICMA 2018. After we had already caught the new Enduro on the test drive as a prototype, KTM is now showing first pictures of a pre-production model and announces the first basic data.

The new KTM 790 Adventure R will powered by the well-known LC8c 799cc 2-cylinder engine, which has more torque compared to it’s siblings, the KTM 790 Duke. A large, but deeply positioned tank should make a range of over 400 km possible. Together with a low seat height, the center of gravity should sink and ensure optimal handling.

Of course, the new KTM790 Adventure R comes with fully adjustable front and rear suspension from WP with long travel and PDS strut. The suspension will be couped with radially mounted 4-piston front calipers with ABS and off-road ABS options.

Ergonomics should be adaptable in many ways. With their spoked wheels the Adventure R offers numerous off-road tire dimensions. The lighting is all LED. There is also an extensive package of driver assistance systems, incl. Tilt sensors and driving modes. Not to be missed of course, a wide range of factory accessories. As the latest pictures show a large luggage system with suitcases and top case is also in preparation.

Otherwise, the prototype, apart from the paint job, already looks ready for production.
